Observations on the fecundity in the freshwater fish Notopterus notopterus (Pallas) from Bhosga tank, Gulbarga

Abstract

The fecundity of freshwater fish, Notopterus notopterus inhabiting Bhosga tank, Gulbarga was studied, The fecundity was found to range from 200 to 600 in the fishes measuring form 20-38 cm in total length, The mathematical relationship between fecundity and total length, body weight, ovary length and ovary weight have been determined. The log fecundity has straight-line relationship with log total length, log body weight, log length and log weight of ovaries. The regression values for these relationship were 0.3360, 0.6880, 0.2945 and 0.7938 respectively. In all the cases linear relationship was found.
