Synthesis of some benzofuro [3,2-d] pyrimidine derivatives as antibacterial and antifungal agents

Abstract

Condensation of 3-amino-2-benzofurancarboxamide (1) with aromatic aldehydes in presence of catalytic amount of cone hydrochloric acid gave 2-aryl-3,4-dihydro-4-oxobenzofuro [3,2-d] pyrimidines in a single step. Some 2,4-disubstituted benzofuro [3,2-d] pyrimidines have been synthesized. Benzofuro pyrimidine derivatives have been screened for antibacterial and antifungal activity against S. aureus, E. coli and C. albicans.
