Influence of different nitrogen sources on growth and lipid production by Aspergillus nidulans and A.sydowii is reported. Of the various nitrogen sources (inorganic and organic) tested only ammonium nitrate proved most efficient for maximum fat production in A.nidulans and A.sydowii. Different concentrations (0.150, 0.300, 0.450 and 0.600 g /100 ml) of ammonium nitrate were tested for their influence on fat production. The concentration of 0.300 g/100 ml yielded highest and maximum fat coefficient in A.nidulans and A.sydowii. The results are also discussed in the light of C : N ratio and its effect on the highest fat production in Aspergillus species.en_US
