Abstract: Transition metal complexes of ZrOII, VOII, Mn II, FeIII, CoII, NiII, Cu II, ZnII, CdII and HgII have been synthesized with lansoprazole drug, that is 2-{3-methyl-4-(2,2,2- trifluoroethane)-2-pyridyl)methyl}sulphonyl benzimidazole. Elemental analysis suggest that these metal ions forms ML2Cl2 stoichiometry for MnII, FeIII, CoII, NiII, Cu II, ZnII, CdII and HgII and ML 2 (metal-ligand) stoichiometry for ZrOII and VO II. These complexes are non-electrolytic in nature. The ligand behaves as bidentate ON donor and forms coordinate bonds through C=N and S=O groups. Magnetic susceptibility, IR, UV-Visible and ESR spectral studies suggest that MnII, FeIII, CoII, NiII, CuII, ZnII, CdII and HgII complexes posses octahedral geometry, whereas, ZrOII and VOII exhibit square pyramidal geometry. The ligand and its complexes were tested for their antimicrobial activity against Klebsiella, Pseudomonas arginousa, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavous.
