The bromination of 5-chloro-3-methyl-2-acetylbenzofuran (1) with bromine in acetic acid gave 5-chloro-3-methyl-2-bromoacetylbenzofuran (2) which on condensation with various substituted aromatic amines afforded 2-N-arylaminoacetyl-5-chloro-3-methylbenzofurans (3-10). These compounds were screened for their antimicrobial analgesic, antiinflammatory and diuretic activities.en_US
