| Abstract: | Michael condensation of 2-arylideneacetylbenzofurans 2a-f with ethyl cyanoacetate and malononitrile afforded 4-aryl-6-(benzofuran-2'-yl) nicotinonitrile-2-ones 3a-f and 2- amino-4-aryl-6-(benzofuran-2'-yl)-3- cyanopyridines 4a-f respectively. All the prepared compounds were characterized using spectral and analytical data. Some compounds showed good antimicrobial activity. |
