Synthesis, antimicrobial and anthelminitic activities of 2,9-disubstituted naphtho [2,1-b] furans

Abstract

A facile synthesis of ethyl 9-aroylnaphtho [2, 1-b] furon-2-carboxylates (4a-c) was accomplished by cyclization of 3-aroyl-2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehydes (3a-c). The compounds 3a-c were obtained from 1-formyl-2-naphthylbenzoates (2a-c) via Fries rearrangement. All the synthesized compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis and spectral data. The compounds were screened for antibacterial, antifungal and anthelmintic activities.
