dc.description.abstract | The interaction between plant hormones is complex throughout the plant regeneration and development. Our investigation in the present study disclosed the capacity of de novo shoot organogenesis from cotyledonary node explant of Trichosanthes cucumerina var. cucumerina L. in relation to plant hormone and ethylene inhibitor. Synergistic effect of Benzyl adenine (BA) and kinetin enhanced the shoot regeneration efficacy (80.6) from cotyledonary node explants of T. cucumerina var. cucumerina compared with BA or kinetin used separately, even in the presence of AgNO3. The use of BA or kinetin separately or in synergistic combination led to characteristic brownish colour of the explants at the bud formation stage, which was related to ethylene production. In the cotyledonary node explant cultured on MS medium supplemented with kinetin the production of ethylene was lower than when BA or the combination of BA and kinetin was used. BA promoted ethylene production while the synergistic effect of kinetin and BA decrease the ethylene production and play a role in high frequency of regeneration from cotyledonary node explants. The physiological relevance of the hormonal interaction in relation to the regulation of ethylene action and effect on regulation was discussed. © 2009 Society for Biology and Biotechnology. | en_US |
