dc.description.abstract | Claisen-Schmidt condensation of 5-chloro-3-methyl-2-acetylbenzofuran 1 with aromatic aldehydes in presence of strong alkali gave 5-chloro-3-methyl-2-arylidene acetylbenzofurans 2-6. Reactions of 2-6 with orthophenylenediamine and orthoaminothiophenol in dry toluene yielded 4-aryl-3-(5'-chloro-3'-methylbenzofuran-2'-yl)-1H benzodiazepines 7-11 and 2-aryl-3- (5'-chloro-3'-methylbenzofuran-2'-yl)-1,5-dihydrothiazepines 12-16. All newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial, hypnotic and anticonvulsant activities. | en_US |
