Abstract: This paper explains the comparison of performances of two proposed microstrip antenna arrays. The proposed microstrip antenna array using H-shape patch type electromagnetic band gap structure is producing an overall bandwidth, mutual coupling and gain equal to 87.92 %, -34.65 dB and 17.44 dB respectively. The proposed microstrip antenna array using I-shape patch type electromagnetic band gap structure is producing an overall bandwidth, mutual coupling and gain equal to 95.11 %, -37.45 dB and 19.16 dB respectively. The conventional and the proposed microstrip antenna arrays are designed at the frequency of 6 GHz. The conventional microstrip antenna array is producing a narrow bandwidth of 2.35 % and a low gain of 5.06 dB respectively. Both the proposed microstrip antenna arrays are producing better forward power and good reduction in back lobe radiation compared to the conventional antenna array. The newness in this paper is the introduction of electromagnetic band gap structures on the surface of microstrip antenna array. © 2018 IAMOT.
