Abstract: In this paper, the problem of the combined effect of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) couple stress on the static and dynamic characteristics of porous plane inclined slider bearings with squeeze action is analyzed theoretically. The modified Reynolds equation governing fluid film pressure is derived for the problem under consideration. The modified Darcy’s equations for the flow of conducting couple-stress fluid in the porous media are utilized. The expression for the steady-state characteristics (pressure and load carrying capacity) and dynamic characteristics (stiffness coefficient and damping coefficient) are obtained. The results show that the steady load-carrying capacity, dynamic stiffness, and damping coefficient increases for the bearings lubricated with MHD couple-stress fluid as compared to corresponding Newtonian case. The effect of permeability is to decrease the steady-state load-carrying capacity, dynamic stiffness coefficient, and dynamic damping coefficient. These effects are marginal for the conducting fluids. Results are compared with that of solid case and non-magnetic case. © 2018 by Begell House, Inc.
