Abstract: 2-Phenylbenzofuro[3,2-d]pyrimidine (17) and its derivatives (3-16, 20 and 21) have been synthesized from 4-chloro-2-phenylbenzofuro[3,2,d]pyrimidine (2) which in turn has been obtained from 3,4-dihydro-2-phenyl-4-oxobenzofuro[3,2 -d]pyrimidine (1) on refluxing with phosphorus oxychloride.
