The flow induced by an infinite flat plate impulsively set into motion in its own plane in an unbounded expanse of an electrically conducting Maxwell fluid under the action of the uniform transverse magnetic field is studied. Expressions for velocity field and skin friction are obtained. An asymptotic solution for large time is derived for the complex oscillations of the plate. Velocity field and skin friction are studied in the stationary state. The effects of stress relaxation time and magnetic field are studied for all frequencies of oscillations and the results are presented graphically.en_US
