Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of 3-(5 '-substituted-3 '-phenylindol-2 '-ylcarbohydrazido)-2-indolinones and 1-substituted aminomethyl-3-(5 '-substituted-3 '-phenylindol-2 '-ylcarbohybrazido)-2-indolinones

Abstract

The synthesis of 3-(5'-substituted-3'-phenylindol-2'-ylcazido)-2-indolinones (3a-d) and 1-substituted aminomethyl-3-(5'-substituted-3'-phenylindol-2'- ylcarbohydrazido)-2'-indolinones (4a-x) has been described. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds has been confirmed on the basis of analytical, IR, H-1 NMR and mass spectral data. These compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against S. aureus, B.subtilis, E.coli and S. species and some of these compounds exhibited good activity compared to standard. Also these compounds were subjected to their antifungal screening against A.flavus and A. niger. Some of the compounds displayed very good antifungal activity.
