Abstract: An assay has been developed for protease activity which uses the gelatin on the surface of an unprocessed X-ray film as the proteolytic substrate. A positive reaction is indicated by a clear zone on the film. The method is inexpensive, rapid, simple, and useful when large numbers are to be screened for their protease inhibitory activity.
