A novel, rapid, and inexpensive method for the demonstration of protease inhibitory activity of legume seeds

Abstract

An assay has been developed for protease activity which uses the gelatin on the surface of an unprocessed X-ray film as the proteolytic substrate. A positive reaction is indicated by a clear zone on the film. The method is inexpensive, rapid, simple, and useful when large numbers are to be screened for their protease inhibitory activity.
