Abstract: A Simple sensitive and rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of Artesunate is described. The method is based on the reaction of H2O2, generated by the cleavage of endoperoxide linkage of Artesunate and its reaction with potassium iodide to liberate iodine. The liberated iodine bleaches the Violet coloured Thionin reagent to colourless species and is measured at 612nm. The Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 12.0 - 215.0 ?g/ml for Artesunate using Thionin reagent. The Sandell's sensitivity, detection limit and quantization limit were also calculated. The optimum reaction conditions and other analytical parameters were evaluated. The proposed method is simple, accurate and easy to apply for routine use.
