This article presents the comparative study of impedance bandwidth of rectangular microstrip antenna comprising different shaped slots on the patch. It is found that the rectangular slot on the center of patch is effective for the enhancement of impedance bandwidth in comparison with elliptical and circular shaped slots. Further, if the rectangular slot is shifted from the center of the patch, antenna provides dual bands. Later, if the G-shaped slot is constructed using rectangular slots, antenna gives maximum impedance bandwidth of 78.07% and gain 3 dB. The experimental impedance bandwidth of proposed antennas is verified theoretically. In all the cases, the radiation pattern is found to be broadside in nature. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.en_US
