The effective atomic number and electron density of a pharmaceutical drug samples are determined in the energy 8 keV to 32 keV using high purity germanium (HPGe) detector and is a non destructive technique followed. The significant variations of the effective atomic number (Zeff) with X-ray energy for the diclofenac sodium drug manufactured by Diclomol, Dynapar, Diclogesic and Voveran Plus are reported. The experimental results are compared with theoretical estimated results. This shows that the Zeff and electron density is not constant with energy for the interaction in components of the diclofenac sodium drug. © 2016 American Scientific Publishers.
