Abstract: A comparative study of performance characteristics of infinitely wide exponential, parabolic and plane inclined slider bearings lubricated with a non-Newtonian couple stress fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field is presented in this paper. On the basis of Stokes couple stress fluid model, the modified Reynolds equation is derived. The closed form expressions for slider bearing characteristics are obtained for the different bearing geometries under consideration. The results are presented for the different values of couple stress parameter and the Hartmann number. The comparative study shows that the parabolic shaped slider bearings provide the largest load carrying capacity and the least coefficient of friction as compared to the other two geometries namely exponential and plane inclined slider bearings. © Research India Publications.
