Abstract: The surface roughness effect on static and dynamic characteristics of parabolic slider bearing lubricated with couple stress fluid in the presence of magnetic field was studied to provide the bearings with higher efficiency. Results showed that transverse roughness pattern increases the load-carrying capacity, dynamic stiffness, and damping coefficients, while the longitudinal roughness pattern decreases the load-carrying capacity, dynamic stiffness, and damping coefficients as compared to the smoothe beating surfaces. The effect of couple stress and applied magnetic field increases the load-carrying capacity, dynamic stiffness and dynamic damping coefficients as compared to Newtonian and non-magnetic cases with rough bearing surfaces.
