Abstract: The management of Municipal Solid Waste generation is a challenging task and its safe disposal is very essential and obligatory functions of Municipal Corporation for rapid urbanization and population explosion. Effective management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is very necessary for taking care of public's health and safety. Increasing population density may lead to generate greater amount of wastes and hazardous substances, causes negative impact on environment. Kalaburagi is one of the fastest growing city and populations is 5,43,147 according to census 2011 in Karnataka. This paper covers the present practice over solid waste management in Kalaburagi city by Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike (KMP). Understand the source of waste generation, resources availability and condition of environment in Kalaburagi city. The existing plan towards solid waste management is highly inefficient. The solid waste collections were practiced as primary and secondary collections, transportation and disposal of solid waste by open dumping at landfill site, these practices are ineffective and non technical manner. This study is getting the status of current practice based on field visit, secondary data collection, interview with different individuals who were involved directly or indirectly involved with projects and also through the discussions with the relevant KMP officials to get a clear idea about the present situation of the city. The present paper concludes that existing condition studies with relates to effective management of MSW in Kalaburagi City. © Global Science Publications.
