Abstract: Several complexes of copper(II) with ethylenediamine derivatives of substituted 2,2'-dihydroxychalkones (L) have been synthesized in ethanol. Analysis shows that the complexes have a 1:1 stoichiometry of the type Cu · L. This is further confirmed by Job's method. The involvement of all the active and donor groups has been determined by IR spectroscopy. The magnetic moments agree well with the spin-only value. Electronic spectral data suggest a square-planar geometry and the molecular weights determined conform to the dimeric nature of the complexes. © 1982.
